Julianne

Luna Artist Julianne has gotten great reviews in her role as lead singer for the Detroit country band Redhill. She and her bandmates -- Greg Michaels (guitar, vocals, songwriter), Ramon Landicho (bass, vocals) & Doug Bridges (drums) -- have gained the attention of fans and music industry insiders through their highly visible gigs at venues like Cincinnati's Midpoint Music Festival and Nashville's Bluebird Cafe.
Julianne hails from a musical family. "My dad plays the piano, guitar and accordian," she explains. "My grandma played fiddle and my grandpa, the mandolin. Uncles and aunts would join in with banjos, piano and guitars. Their last name was Tubbs and I'm told that we're related to the famous Tubbs from Tennessee." Mom plays the flute, Julianne adds, and her siblings are guitar players. "My daughters play piano, guitar and flute, too," the singer says.

Describing how she connected with Luna Guitars, Julianne says she first spied a Luna instrument at her local music store. "I was immediately drawn to it," she relates. "I had them take it out of the display so I could play it, and when I did, it seemed like the angels started singing! I fell in love with it because it encompassed my two loves ... music and art." Julianne's first Luna was a Henna Paradise Cedar; she expects to welcome a Lady of Shalott model to her instrument lineup shortly. "I love the fit and feel of the Luna," she explains. "The size of the body works well for me and the pickup is awesome. It has such a nice, clear sound in concert, and I love to use it when I'm sitting on my back porch writing songs."

With such a musical family behind her, it isn't surprising to learn that Julianne names a wide-ranging group of performers as her professional influences. The list includes such luminaries as the legedary Dolly Parton, Johnny Cash, Etta James, Bruce Springsteen, Bonnie Raitt and Marvin Gaye. The single mom credits her family's support with helping her career progression. "My dad babysits while I'm at rehearsal. I feel an obligation to my children and my family and friends who've supported me to give my all and do my very best every time I'm on state or writing or recording a song."

Redhill is at work on a new CD with a late-2007 release date expected. "I'm very excited about the material and the sound," Julianne says. "We call it Detroit Country and it's flavorful, full-bodied country music with a blues-rock edge."
